For a fully secured KNX installation, all devices—from sensors and couplers to actuators—should support KNX Data Secure.
In practice, however, KNX Data Secure-compatible devices may not be available for every application. In addition, existing installations may need to be expanded with new KNX Data Secure devices while still using legacy devices that do not support KNX Data Secure.
In such cases, devices with and without KNX Data Secure can be installed in separate lines or segments.
KNX Data Secure-enabled Area, Line, or Segment Couplers are then used as Secure Proxies between these segments.
The Secure Proxy translates group telegrams in both directions between secured and unsecured communication.
This translation is completely transparent to sensors and actuators.
Commissioning as a Secure Proxy
Starting with ETS version 6.1.1, the coupler must be securely commissioned using its Device Certificate.
No additional configuration is required.
The ETS automatically detects that the coupler can operate as a Secure Proxy and enters the group addresses to be translated into the corresponding table of the coupler.
When the application program is downloaded, both this table and the group address filter table are updated automatically.
