7. Backup

A backup of the HOOC gateway is always included in the configuration-backup of the device EIBPORT, CUBEVISIONMODULE or APPMODULE, so that no additional backup is required. There are minor differences between the backup via the EIBPORT and the other modules (CUBEVISIONMODULE, APPMODULE). You should take into account these differences when deciding which approach will work better for you.

HOOC Gateway EIBPORT

The prerequisite is that the HOOC gateway has been fully configured in the EIBPORT and the connection is active "ON". You create your backup via the system in the “Backup / Restore” menu. If the "configuration" is activated, the required HOOC gateway settings are also transferred to the backup (hardware ID and activation key). The selection window "VPN configuration and certificates" has no relevance for the HOOC gateway.

Please note, however, that with a firmware update, nevertheless it is a full-update or an incremental, of the EIBPORT, the EIBPORT is set to a delivery state except of the network settings. The HOOC gateway settings are only restored when restoring with your backup. This means that a remote update via the EIBPORT itself is not possible, because with the delivery status you have no longer remote access to the EIBPORT.

HOOC Gateway CUBEVISIONMODULE, APPMODULE

The prerequisite is that the HOOC gateway has been fully configured in the MODULE (CUBEVISIONMODULE, APPMODULE) and the connection is active "ON". When the MODULES are backed up, the required HOOC gateway settings are transferred to the backup (hardware ID and activation key), if “Configuration” is activated.

In the case of a firmware update, if the setting "Keep Configuration" has been activated, the HOOC gateway settings of the MODULE are also automatically transferred to the internal backup and the HOOC gateway should continue to be active after the update. This means that the MODULE can still be accessed remotely. In the event of a faulty update, however, remote access is lost. To be on the safe side, a backup should always be made before a firmware update.

If the settings "Keep Network Settings" or "Reset Configuration" were selected during the backup or update, no HOOC gateway settings are saved in the backup, as well as by internal device backups during the update process. The restoration takes place without the HOOC gateway setting and is therefore not available or reset.

Practical tip: A firmware update via remote access should not be carried out on the device, which itself ensures the HOOC connection. If, in addition to the EIBPORT, there are also MODULES with HOOC Gateway in your system, it is beneficial to use the HOOC Gateway of the MODULE to relieve the EIBPORT or to enable remote updates. In addition to the HOOC service in the EIBPORT, the EIBPORT offers further remote connections for security for a firmware update of the MODULE, with only one HOOC license in use.
